Kos is the closest Greek island to Bodrum. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, was born on Kos Island. He lived and worked there. In the center of Kos, in front of the Knights’ Castle, there is a very old plane tree, also known as the “Tree of Hippocrates”. The Greeks are telling, that the famous doctor planted this tree himself and loved underneath its shadow, hiding from the noon sun, teaching his students. Next to the port of Kos, there are queues – trains that will take you around the sland, including the ruins of ancient Asklepion – the world’s first hospital. Kosealso has other ancient monuments: the Dionysos Altar, Casa Romana, and the most popular Crusader Castle, which you should definitely visit. It is also recommended to try traditional gyros – Greek pork kebab with fries.
